Beeldenpark de Havixhorst

Surrounding

De Havixhorst estate

The core of the estate is formed by the manor with its outbuildings, a moat and the surrounding rising deciduous forest. The gardens are inextricably linked to the entire complex. In the garden design, the choice was made to reconstruct the gardens according to the 1753 Baroque fashion with a fairly strict symmetrical structure.

Stork Centre De Lokkerij

Close to De Havixhorst is the Stork Centre De Lokkerij. In old writings this building is called Lutke Havixhorst, or The Little Havixhorst. A name that clearly indicates the historical relationship with the manor. On the initiative of the Dutch Society for the Protection of Birds, the Drenthe Stork Centre De Lokkerij in the Reestdal near De Wijk was established in 1981. From the very beginning, the Koopman family managed this stork centre with great success. Thanks to these centres, the stork has been preserved as a Dutch breeding bird at the last minute. At the moment there are about a thousand storks flying around in the Netherlands. Partly thanks to the outdoor stork centre, the population of Drenthe is steadily increasing
